Peninsula Papagayo Fishing Adventures
The Roosterfish is arguably the most prolific species found in the rich fishing grounds in this area and hooking one is not as straightforward as it may seem. Roosterfish adults weigh about the same as an average-sized sailfish, and they will offer an almighty struggle once hooked. The trophy-rated Roosters are found in the waters around the Catalinas islets and Bat Island in the Gulf of Papagayo and can easily weigh in from around 40 to 80 pounds. Many other species of fish swim these waters with the likes of Snapper, Dorado, Jacks, Snook and even Sailfish quite common visitors.

Papagayo Weather Patterns
The Northwest Pacific area enjoys one of the driest climates in Costa Rica in the fabulous fishing grounds of the Gulf of Papagayo. The coastal areas experience steady year-round temperatures with daytime highs hovering around the upper 80s to lower 90s F. Nighttime lows are usually in the upper 70s. Being a tropical zone, precipitation varies through the year with the best weather arriving between November and August.

This one lasts 4 hours (from Playa Ocotal or Marina Papagayo), and our half-day fishing adventure is for groups who want to enjoy the amazing Guanacaste coastline in a limited time. We take you out to the middle of the Gulf of Papagayo where we typically go in search of several species. Red Snapper, Bonitos, Dorado, Roosterfish, Jacks and Amberjacks are but some of the fine fish we will encounter. Whether it is for singles or couples, friends or family, it all costs the same as you enjoy Costa Rica’s incredible coastline and rich fishing grounds.
Full day fishing
Our full day trip of 8 hours begins from Playa Ocotal or Marina Papagayo at 7:30 am as we set off in search of magnificent Billfish. This epic adventure takes us up to 30 miles off the coast where we expect to encounter the denizens from the deep, with Blue and Striped Marlin and Pacific Sailfish topping the heavyweight division and eager to do battle with anyone brave enough to step into the “ring”! No worries, we land safely back at the Marina!
